Who we are... a note from Dr. Collin Walding

Hello everyone and welcome to Social House Chiropractic's new blog! We are super excited to have this space to share knowledge and insight to what we do at Social House and why are so passionate about what we do. This blog will have posts from both Dr. Collin and Dr. Kara about our thoughts about what we're seeing in practice and also general knowledge for health and wellness.

Social House Chiropractic is a neurologically based chiropractic office located in the heart of Prosper, Texas. We serve pregnant moms, babies, kiddos, dads, and everyone in between. When Kara and I (this is Dr. Collin) first began school we wanted ( we thought) to work with athletes and work with sports teams and do all that jazz with the gadgets and gizmos. It didn't take us long to realize that our passion did not align with that population of people, because quite frankly... It just didn't feel right in our hearts. Fast forward a couple semesters into chiropractic school and we had friends and now mentors that we met that were serving kids and moms, and whole families. We started becoming more immersed, as much as we could while trying to excel in our studies, and it just clicked for us. For me anyways it was the first time in my life that I felt like I knew exactly what I wanted to do. It just felt right. So on top of school we were always diving into weekend adjusting seminars, improving our skills and craft and also beginning to learn more and more about what it meant to be a family chiropractor, and specifically a nervous system focused chiropractor that specializes in seeing kiddos that are stuck and struggling.

This is our "why",  and it's for everyone in any season of life that is stuck. We use this term a lot, especially on social media to really put in perspective of where people tend to come in as. And its just that, the people that seek care aren't looking for someone to save their life, but everyone seems to be stuck in their own funk and pattern... and our job is to find out how you got there and how to get you out... but it takes work from everyone. Taking a step back I remember seeing people post that they were " nervous system based" and getting super annoyed because if you know anything about chiropractic, we obviously know that the chiropractic adjustment has a huge impact on our brain and nervous system... so my first thought was...well i'll leave that out. But what does it truly mean to be a chiropractor that focuses on the function of the nervous system and how it effects the rest of our system and body. Because your body is just that, its a system. a very complex system that no one completely understands to this point still even today. But it is also the most simple thing ever, one quote I love is " the body needs no help, but it needs no interference". Our bodies are designed so freaking awesome that as long as we take care of them, they will provide and stand the match of life. Barring an unlucky fate of something horrific. But that is why we love chiropractic so much, it is so SIMPLE, but I also believe that is why it is so misunderstood. Sometimes I think that there is such a miscommunication of what we do, that people cant fathom how simple it is. We remove stress and interference from the nervous system... THAT IS IT! We do not "fix" anything, so if you're seeing someone that is claiming to "fix" you... run the other direction, because that is not chiropractic care. And what makes chiropractic care so awesome (when done correctly) is that it is so different than the allopathic, sick, unhealthy model that we are stuck in as a society. As a country we accept and believe that we only need to seek care when we are sick. We are stuck in a reactive, pathogenic model of health and we see the results everyday. 70% of Americans are on at least one medication, and half of those are on multiple medications. HOW FREAKING CRAZY IS THAT. We focus on what makes us sick, instead of what keeps us well.

Well thats why chiropractic is so freaking awesome, thats why care here at Social House is different. We focus on what makes us well, it is a completely different mindset, and its where the magic happens. The things that happen under this roof are absolutely nothing short of a miracle to most, but they are expected here. To most that so they cant explain the amazing things that happen here, we can. Its simple, a system that is working free from stress, in an adaptable state will do just that. That is where we come in and use modern technology to find out and quantify how much stress is on your system, and where. Its so simple but can be communicated as so complicated. We know that everything is connected...  We KNOW. We know the basics of neurology and how information flows and how it comes back around as well. Without getting to sciency... I'll leave that for a later post, dont you worry. Just as I spoke about previously, if we cant communicate with people what we do, then they dont understand. MISCOMMUNICATION, it causes problems in every aspect of life, marriage, financial, work, family, etc... it causes divorce, failed and destroyed relationships, probably anger, grief, a lot of bad things, we know this. Now lets take that same concept and apply it to the the body and nervous system. The nervous system is broken into two major parts to keep it simple: Central and Peripheral, now each of these have other parts that make them whole and are extremely important for vitality, but for now lets say two parts. Central communicates and connects with peripheral and vise versa, central= brain and spinal cord, peripheral= outside of that. What is the synapse center for these things, OMG I think its the spine. It IS! I could go on forever and get way more deep into the science of this, but thats it in a gist. The brain sends signal to the periphery via the spinal cord, the peripheral NS sends info back to the brain via the spinal cord. So what happens when we have these areas of our spine that are stuck in stress mode, stuck in abnormal fixation or movement (bones dont go out of place by the way) ? well I'll tell you, MISCOMMUNICATION. We see the effects of miscommunication in our personal lives and what happens, now what happens when we apply that to our nervous system. The thing thats sole purpose is to take on the environmental and external stressors, process them, and then coordinate every cell, tissue, organ in our body? Ill let you guys fill in the blank there. We become stuck because our body is stuck in miscommunication, we become fixated and stuck in a cycle of your body and brain receiving the wrong information as opposed to the right information. Now I skipped a big part of our system and that is our Autonomic Nervous System(ANS),  and this is really where chiropractic care comes in, if you're going to a chiro and they are focused on your pain and not your ANS, get on down the road. Chiropractic is GLOBAL, pain is local...they're missing the main piece of the puzzle. Chiropractic care has a direct effect on our ANS and our Vagus nerve, it has a direct effect on how our brain communicates with our body and back again (sensory). So... Ha, that is why chiropractic is so freaking amazing, and honestly so dang simple.

SO... Who are we? We are Dr. Collin and Dr. Kara and we serve up some freaking awesome chiropractic care in Prosper, Texas. We hold space for families, for stuck kids, for exhausted moms, and stuck individuals who know they are not thriving like they know they can. We help everyone and I mean everyone live their life to the fullest, to have a nervous system that is highly adaptable, and rocking so that they dont get steam rolled by life. The things that happen in this place are nothing short of a miracle for most, but expected from us. Things that do even make sense to others.... autoimmune diseases... GONE, Constipation, gone.... sleep, restored... medications, GONE... pain.... its the first thing to go. What I always tell patients is that if we are focusing and restoring communication in your system, pain will be the first thing to leave, it will be an after thought. So if you were curious... thats who we are. If you weren't, well now ya know.

Blessings,

Dr. Collin Walding
